Alice Bailey is a multidisciplinary artist whose creative journey, spanning over five decades, has culminated in a deep passion for mosaic art and sculpture. While her background includes fashion design (co-founding the inclusive “Design Strata” collective in Washington DC), interior design, hand-painted silk scarves, culinary presentation, and jewelry, Alice’s current focus and most distinctive body of work lies in large-scale mosaic installations and one-of-a-kind mosaic sculptures.
Exterior Mosaic Installations
For the past twenty years, Alice has transformed the exterior of her home into a vibrant, evolving artwork. Her large-scale mosaics blend abstract compositions with narrative scenes, including a whimsical retelling of Alice in Wonderland and two enchanting mermaids. The centerpiece is a spectacular 20′ × 30′ mandala mosaic “carpet” on the floor — an intricate, meditative design that serves as both a bold artistic statement and a symbolic representation of unity and the universe.
These permanent installations have turned her residence into a living gallery, delighting neighbors, visitors, and passersby while demonstrating the power of mosaic to beautify and personalize architectural spaces.
Mosaic Sculptures
Alice’s latest body of work centers on original mosaic sculptures. She designs and hand-builds the high-fire clay substrates herself, giving her complete control over form, texture, and structure from the very beginning. Each sculpture is then meticulously clad in mosaic using a rich mix of materials that highlight her signature love of color, pattern, and tactile surfaces.
